Pomodoro for ADHD: Overcoming Time Blindness

The Executive Function Challenge

ADHD brains often suffer from time blindness. This means they struggle to feel the passage of time, making 5 minutes feel like 5 hours, or vice-versa. Pomodoro turns abstract time into something visible and audible.

The Timer as an "External Scaffold"

People with ADHD have a deficit in internal executive function (the brain's "manager"). The Pomodoro timer acts as a prosthesis for this function, externalizing control. You don't have to "feel" when to stop; the timer tells you.

Gamifying Focus

Try to "beat the clock". The timer creates an artificial urgency that releases dopamine, the neurotransmitter lacking in the ADHD brain. This small hit of dopamine helps overcome the initial barrier of starting a task (Task Paralysis).
